Day 18 10 Eating Habits We are coming to a close of our time together, so I wanted to share some simple habits from the
Ayurveda perspective on eating. 1. Wait until you are actually hungry to eat. The grumbling sounds are juices flowing. 2. Routine. Routine. Routine. Eat at the same time every day. 3. Drink a glass of warm water twenty minutes before a meal can improve digestive function by as much as 24%. 4. Relax while eating and for fifteen minutes afterwards.(It takes 60% of your metabolism to digest food.) 5. Eat simple food combinations. 6. Avoid cold drinks or foods such as salads and smoothies. 7. Nurse the belly after a tough day with easy to digest soups. (I had a friend run 6 miles today after having a stomach bug for the past 3 days--NO NO NO! 8. Completely chew and mix food with saliva. 9. Fill stomach 1/3 full with food, 1/3 with water, and 1/3 empty. 10. Eat a simple breakfast, a hearty lunch, and a gentle dinner.- This means NO big heavy dessert like cheese cake, etc... Source Basic Rule of Thumb for each Dosha Type if you are trying to bring balance to your digestion. Vata- avoid cold and raw food-"This is hard; I love a good salad.." Pitta- avoid hot and spicy-"This is hard; I love spicy Mexican."
Kapha- avoid heavy, wheat, and dairy, "This is hard; I love a good steak and baked
potato, so leave me alone."
Enneagram News
"Everyone has positive qualities that they usually do not recognize in themselves.
Today, can you discover your ability to find self-mastery through self-surrender to a
higher authority?" (Personality Types, 297)
Oh I just love this! Surrender. Surrender. Surrender. Yes! This is why I love yoga so
much. You have to surrender in so many poses. Show up and surrender. This is how life
is everyday!
Enneagram Teaching:
"One central aspect of a mature love of ourselves is caring about our growth sufficiently
that we do not flee from the discomfort or pain of our actual condition. We must love
ourselves enough not to abandon ourselves—and we abandon ourselves to the degree
that we are not fully present to our own lives. When we are caught up in worry, fantasy,
tension, and anxiety, we become dissociated from our bodies and our feelings—and
ultimately from our true nature." (The Wisdom of the Enneagram, 347)
Have you signed up for the daily emails from The Enneagram Institute? I love them,
because they give me a lesson and a daily practice.
What does Mature Love look like for you? How do you sit with discomfort? Do you dip
out or stay for the afterparty?
I want to know! Tell me what and how you do it! Stay with the hard feelings I mean.
I am so proud of you for your work. I cannot wait to hear the results. Small steps add up
to big results.
Namaste,
jen
