Anxiety has me paralyzed! Without a doubt this is the statement I hear almost everyday. My friends, clients, and family
equally share their feelings about anxiety. I respond with more questions about what is triggering the feelings. It ranges from basic stress, to illness, to boyfriend/girlfriend issues, relationships in general, to work related stress. The common theme is "it takes no breaks!" Then I ask how it shows up. The answers are broad in general--heart racing, shortness of breath, shaking, uneasiness, crying, insomnia, and even physical manifestations in the body. Heart fluttering, foggy brain, and scattered mind are also common symptoms. NIH reports these symptoms: ● Feeling restless, wound-up, or on-edge. ● Being easily fatigued. ● Having difficulty concentrating. ● Being irritable. ● Having headaches, muscle aches, stomachaches, or unexplained pains. ● Difficulty controlling feelings of worry. ● Having sleep problems, such as difficulty falling or staying asleep.
So how is it showing up for you? And, what are you doing that is helpings?
Here are 3 ways to manage the anxiety:
1. Journal when you get triggered. Begin to bring awareness to the reactions
whether it is the pain body or the emotional dramas that are playing out in
your life.
2. Practice the STOP DROP & ROLL
Stop and notice what is going on in the moment.
Drop the story or the defense mechanism.
Roll into the present moment with conscious compassion of Self and the other
person involved.
3. Breathe into the moment. Your breath is your medicine. Breathe into the heart space.
As you breathe into the body, the nerv ous system will recognize you are safe.
Let's break it down a little more. Anxiety is an emotion. It is an emotion that follows a
thought about the potential future that may or may not happen. What?!! Read that
again. Anxiety is real and it affects every cell in your body. And, it is an emotion that
follows a thought about the potential future that may or may not happen.
Affirm
I AM SAFE!
I AM OK.
BREATHE INTO THIS MOMENT!
There is a secret to this formula though. You must practice it every day even when you
are not anxious. So when the anxiety comes, your brain recognizes the words and the
breath work. Life is meant to be lived with peace. I want you to have just that--PEACE! I
hope these quick tips help.
