How cleaning toilets can help with anxiety It has been a bit since I have written to you guys. A lot has been going on
behind the scenes. One of the unexpected things I've discovered is how cleaning toilets can be one of the best things you do all day for your mental health. I recently took a contract to work with a new company that is disrupting the way our country provides health care. When I first took the contract, I thought "oh this will just be a good way to serve more people and to supplement my business as I grow." I underestimated everything! I love the company, the resources they provide to the customers, and just how much they care. More than that, I have loved all the clients. It has been a gift to be able to provide support and impact so many people in the past few months. I have had a few big revelations: 1. Anxiety and depression are plaguing people in our country right now. 2. It is hard to find a good therapist that you can connect with and who knows how to help you. 3. And, the most surprising one of all is I am actually a really good therapist. I do not say this to brag or boast. I share this with complete humility and to
fully expose my own imposter syndrome. You know the feeling that you don't
really know what you are doing... It is also disguised as just simple
self-doubt? I have suffered from this most of my life-- as does more than
50% the population.
The results are in. I am not an imposter. I do know what I am doing and it is working.
As one of my clients recently said, "this $h!t works!" I cracked up when he said it,
because he prefaced it with "I really did not think it would help, but I was wrong."
This work is good if you are ready for real change.
This work is good if you are sick and tired of feeling stuck, anxious, depressed, sad, or
mad.
This work is good if you are willing to show up and do the homework.
I do not have a magic wand. However, I do have tools in my toolbox that are effective in
changing your life when you use them. It is a practice. I can give you the information.
You get to choose when you are ready to implement it.
"Although the world is full of suffering, it is also full of people overcoming it."
Helen Keller
- Here are a few of the tools I teach you to use:
- 4 Ms that will change your life:
- ●Mindfulness
- ●Movement
- ●Meditation
- ●Mental Health
- Beyond all the tools in my toolbox, humor me for a minute and let me share how I
- managed to calm myself down after a near catastrophe was avoided on my bike
- ride. I was so shaken up, I could not pull it together. I was shaking, nervous, and ready
to cry. I used all my normal tools--checking in with thoughts, breathing exercises,
mindfulness, asking the rational questions, etc... when all else fails, pulled out my secret
weapon: cleaning toilets.
I could give you all the neuroscience behind why it works, but you would get really
bored. The point is it works.
I frantically cleaned 4 toilets and shined them enough to serve a four-course meal on
them. And, guess what! The anxious feelings and shaking hands disappeared. I
breathed though all the thoughts and feelings as I scrubbed the porcelain and boom! I
was calm, centered, and ready to take over the world. So next time you get the out of
control feelings associated with a anxiety or depression, try cleaning the toilets and
wash the anxiety away.
Try it. What do you have to gain? A calm mind!
Anyhoo, this is silly story to remind you that you have the power to heal your mind,
body, and spirit. Tap into your authentic power and heal yourself.
If you are looking for lasting change, the question you have to ask yourself is…
